#CorroPelaMaria - A morning of Sun, Empathy and Togetherness

22nd November 2025 | 09h30 AM | Parque das Nações, Lisboa, Portugal

On the 22nd of November 2025, after an entire week of grey skies and heavy rain, the sun finally broke through - just in time to gift us the perfect morning for our 5 km run. It felt symbolic: a bright moment of hope after days of gloom, setting the tone for an event that was so much more than a casual Saturday jog.

As scientists, we traded our labcoats for running shoes and headed out to support a cause that is profoundly close to our hearts: #CorroPelaMaria. This initiative, dedicated to raising awareness and funds for research on Rett Syndrome, has united people from all walks of life - and being part of it felt both meaningful and uplifting.

The highlight of the day was meeting Maria herself! Spending time with her and her family  - and her incredible and strong mother, Sónia Rochette - brought a special warmth to the event, reminding us why our science matters, why community matters, and why these moments of connection are so important. Surrounded by supporters who not only ran but also donated generously to the cause, the atmosphere was filled with joy, empathy, and purpose.

The weather could not have been more perfect. Clear skies, gentle sun, and a sense of collective energy made every step feel lighter. It was the kind of morning that stays with you - not just for the physical activity, but for the reminder that coming together truly makes a difference.

Here’s to many more sunny mornings, shared miles, and continued support for Maria and her family. Together, we run with heart!
