MJDiógenes speaks at the Global Academic Symposium at the University of Macau

11th November 2025 | All Day | Macau, China

Our lab was honored to participate in the Global Academic Symposium hosted by the University of Macau (UM), which brought together 28 scholars from 18 institutions worldwide to share research achievements, explore cutting-edge developments, and foster international collaboration.

The symposium featured four sub-forums across UM’s faculties, including the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), focusing on “Innovative Medical Strategies and Disease Mechanisms.” Experts from around the world presented advances in precision oncology, immunotherapy, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular disorders, and the role of diet and gut microbiota in chronic diseases.

Maria José Diógenes represented our lab and the University of Lisbon Medical School, presenting our latest research on neuroprotection in Alzheimer’s disease. Her work emphasizes the BDNF/TrkB signaling pathway as a critical mechanism for preserving neuronal function and cognitive resilience, highlighting new strategies for therapeutic intervention in neurodegenerative disorders.

The symposium provided an outstanding platform for interdisciplinary exchange, networking, and the creation of future international collaborations, reinforcing our lab’s commitment to advancing Alzheimer’s research on a global stage.
