Our Lab at SPN25 in Póvoa do Varzim

28-30th May 2025 | All Day | Axis Vermar Conference & Beach Hotel, Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal

This year, our lab attended the SPN25 meeting in Póvoa do Varzim, a three-day conference packed with outstanding neuroscience research and discussions. The meeting featured symposiums on neuroimmune interactions, oxidative stress, neurodevelopment, neuronal circuits and behavior, synaptic function, aging and neurodegenerative diseases, as well as advanced and translational neuroscience topics.

Special sessions included a talk by Sara Xapelli on the imposter phenomenon, and a junior committee session on “Fostering interactions and synergies for the future of Portuguese Neuroscience.”

We were thrilled that our student - Mariana Carreira - received a travel grants to attend the meeting and showcase her research. Presentations from our lab covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Alzheimer’s disease and neurotrophic factors - by Tiago Costa-Coelho and Sara Inteiro-Oliveira

  • Rett Syndrome and adenosine signaling - by Mariana Carreira

  • Epilepsy and Neurogenesis - by Madalena Rosário

The conference was an excellent opportunity for our team to share our work, learn from peers, and engage with the broader neuroscience community in Portugal. We extend our gratitude to the organizing committee for creating such a rich and inspiring program.
